IPv6 in operator environments

advanced level / technicians

The course provides latest insight into top-end IPv6 related practices and use cases in professional operator environments. A comprehensive overview of IPv4 to IPv6 migration challenges and approaches is presented including details on technological solutions. Details and practical experience is provided to the attendees on implementing and operating IPv6-based technologies and solutions in operator access and core networks. Guidelines for network architects and engineering designers are given on advanced IPv6 mechanisms and technologies deployment, configuration, and testing and verification, topped with hands-on experience in PPPv6 client and router configurations and IPv4/IPv6 and MPLS/IPv6 router tunneling configurations.

  • Basics on IPv4 and IPv6 operations
  • IPv6 deployment
  • Transition mechanisms
    • Dual-Stack
    • Translation (NAT44, NAT64/AFT64, LSN, A+P)
  • Tunneling (manual configuration, GRE, L2TPv3, 6rd, MPLS)
  • Operator environments
    • IPv6 in core networks (Native, Dual-Stack, IPv4/IPv6 tunneling, MPLS, 6PE, 6VPE)
    • IPv6 in access networks (xDSL, FTTH, cable access)
  • Advanced IPv6 operator services (DHCPv6, DHCPv6 PD, AAA/RADIUS, QoS, Multicast)
  • Verification and testing of IPv6 network infrastructure (performance, interoperability and functional testing)
  • PPPv6 router and client configuration
  • IPv4/IPv6 and MPLS/IPV6 router tunneling configuration
